Scope and Contents
The collection consists of photographs taken between 1882 and 1953 of various exterior locations primarily in Orange County, California, including Santa Ana, Tustin, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Garden Grove, Orange, San Juan Capistrano, San Juan Hot Springs, and Irvine. There are also photographs of Catalina Island and Riverside. More than half of the photographs date to the period prior to 1900. The collection includes in most cases the glass plate or film negatives used to create the prints.

C.E. French. The three-story French's Opera House (later known as the Grand Opera House) was built in 1889-90 at the northeast corner of Fourth and Bush streets. An emblem in an upstairs window shows that it was also the meeting place of the Santa Ana Masonic Lodge. Location of M.A. Menges D.D.S.(second floor window). Painter supplies business (street level). Insurance business sign (street level). Drug store (next door). Poster advertisements for Joe Poheim, tailor. Horse-drawn carriage parked next to the building.
