The Local History Collection focuses on the history of Orange County California and the cities within Orange County, Southern California and to a lesser extent California as a whole. Years 1776-2012 (to date) are covered. The collection includes 3860 cataloged books and pamphlets, correspondence, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, memoribilia, papers, periodicals, posters and photographs.

Contains research materials, published works, and other documents belonging to Virginia Carpenter (1905-1995), a Southern Californian local historian. Writing several books on Orange County and the city of Placentia, Carpenter also worked in the Placentia District Library, and was a member of the Orange County Historical Society.
