The Local History Collection focuses on the history of Orange County California and the cities within Orange County, Southern California and to a lesser extent California as a whole.
The collection includes 3860 cataloged books and pamphlets, correspondence, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, memoribilia, microfilm, papers, periodicals, posters and photographs.

General
Materials written by and about Jim Sleeper (1927-2012), a native Orange County resident and local historian. Born in Santa Ana in 1927, after graduating from Santa Ana High School, serving in the military during World War II, and graduating from Occidental College, Sleeper worked a variety of jobs before becoming a full-time historian. Sleeper served as the staff historian for the Irvine Co. and Rancho Missin Viejo Company, contributed to the Los Angeles Times and Orange County Register, and was a member of several local history organizations, Sleeper continued to work as a local historian until his death 2012.
