The Local History Collection focuses on the history of Orange County California and the cities within Orange County, Southern California and to a lesser extent California as a whole.
The collection includes 3860 cataloged books and pamphlets, correspondence, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, memoribilia, microfilm, papers, periodicals, posters and photographs.

General
Henry Raup Wagner (1862-1957) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1862. After graduating from Yale University in 1884 and Yale Law School in 1886, he began working the mining industry in the American West and also began collecting books. In 1898, he started working for the Guggenheim family, working in Mexico, Chile, and England.
In 1917, he married Blanche Collet, who he had met in Mexico, and the two first settled in Berkeley, California, and then San Marino, California. In 1918, he began focusing on his scholarly work, and published "The Plains and the Rockies" in 1920, and continued writing historical bibliographies until his death in 1957.
