Collection of historical maps of Greece
Content Description
Collection consists of two hand-colored copper engraved maps of Greece from the early modern period. The earlier map, Abraham Ortelius's Graecia Universae Secundum Hodiernum Situm Neoterica (1592), depicts Greece according to contemporary geographical knowledge of the late sixteenth century. The later map, Matthäus Seutter's Graecia Nova et Mare Aegaeum Archipelagus (1725), provides detailed cartographic representation of Greece and the Aegean Sea region. Also included is a certificate of authenticity for the Ortelius map.
